[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The City of Buenos Aires has introduced the ability to pay taxes and other official procedures using cryptocurrencies, alongside launching several measures to modernize its tax system, collectively known as BA Crypto.
These initiatives, which include targeted tax incentives for crypto companies and the upcoming international events like Devconnect and DuneCon25, firmly establish Buenos Aires as an emerging Web3 hub in Latin America, attracting startups, investors, and global talent.
Easier to manage and regulate
The purchase and sale of crypto assets will now be classified under a specific category in the economic activity nomenclature. This change simplifies and streamlines tax filings, providing clarity and facilitating better information sharing between jurisdictions without adding extra tax costs.
Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) will be exempt from the bank collection regime for Gross Income Tax. This measure is crucial for reducing bureaucracy and ensuring that the working capital of crypto companies remains intact.
At the same time, a differential tax base will be introduced for the purchase and sale of crypto assets: companies will only be required to pay taxes on the price difference, similar to other payment instruments or stores of value. This encourages the formal registration of companies and supports the growth of the crypto industry in the city.
Lastly, a QR code will now enable the payment of taxes, such as property tax, vehicle tax, or gross income, as well as non-tax procedures like driver’s licenses or traffic fines, directly and easily from any wallet.
Argentina’s blockchain ecosystem
In recent years, Latin America has shown that technological innovation can become a strategic tool to address social, economic, and even institutional challenges. The blockchain universe is one of the clearest expressions of this phenomenon, and Argentina today holds a prominent place within this transformation.
A recent research study carried out by Sherlock Communications shows that Argentina has managed to position itself as the most promising country in the region in terms of market volume. The data indicates that between July 2023 and June 2024, Argentines received more than 91 billion dollars in on-chain transactions, surpassing Brazil in cryptocurrency reception.
The regional trend is also clear. In this sense, stablecoins are consolidating as the future of digital money: they combine the stability of fiat currencies with the efficiency and reach of blockchain technology. Their use for remittances, international trade, and even on-chain electoral audits opens up an innovation pathway that can no longer be ignored.
Human capital is another pillar of this transformation. In countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico there are more than 800,000 software developers, many of them self-taught, who have found in hackathons, bootcamps, and online communities a springboard to global opportunities. Half of the programmers surveyed as part of this research stated that they have already received international offers, and one third are already working outside the region. This recognition confirms that Latin American talent is increasingly valued worldwide.
Competitive edge: why Buenos Aires attracts Web3 projects
The new measures establish a favorable regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies, which is essential for the widespread adoption of Web3 solutions. The tax incentives will streamline operations, enable more agile financing, and make the city more attractive to global investors. Buenos Aires is positioning itself as the gateway that connects Latin America to the global Ethereum ecosystem.
In addition, Buenos Aires will host Devconnect Argentina from November 17 to 22, 2025. Often referred to as the “World Fair of Ethereum,” this week-long event will feature coworking hubs, exhibitions, and dApp showcases at La Rural. It promises to be an ideal platform for product launches and networking with developers, investors, and Web3 leaders.
On November 19, 2025, DuneCon25 will take place at Bubble Studios, bringing together over 500 developers, analysts, and protocols focused on blockchain data and analytics. Communities like Filecoin, Nethermind, and ETHGlobal further solidify Buenos Aires as a regional hub for open-source technology and Web3 innovation.
With these strategic measures and the high-profile events coming up later this year, Buenos Aires is firmly establishing itself as a leading Web3 hub in the region, driving cryptocurrency adoption and attracting top global talent.
Avalanche case study
By the end of 2024, Sherlock Communications had a notable experience in the sector supporting Avalanche, a decentralized and open-source blockchain, in its strategy to strengthen its brand presence in Latin America through the first Avalanche Summit in Argentina.
The campaign targeted Web3 developers, entrepreneurs (especially in the gaming sector), and investors, combining local media outreach, influencer collaboration, and digital campaigns.
More than 100 journalists were contacted with personalized pitches highlighting real-world blockchain applications beyond crypto. At the same time, digital campaigns on social media and Web3 platforms generated 2,536 conversions and 37,000 clicks.
The Summit gathered 1,429 delegates, 12 influencers, and more than 35 journalists, achieving 200 media clippings and a reach of more than 50 million people. The campaign significantly boosted Avalanche’s profile in Latin America, consolidating it as a key player in the region’s blockchain ecosystem.
